A PSEG project will take construction crews to 2nd Street between Main Street and Mineola Boulevard in early January.

Only one street will be closed at a time, said Daniel Whalen, Village of Mineola building superintendent during the Dec. 6 board meeting.

The project will begin Jan. 7 and last two to four weeks, Whalen said. The construction will take place between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Though the project will be a little hassle for a few weeks, Deputy Mayor Pereira said, in the long term it’s for the greater good.

The construction isn’t a village project, Whalen said, but that doesn’t mean the village won’t be responsive to issues residents have.

Residents are welcome to call Whalen and the buildings department with any questions or concerns, he said.

There will also be a meeting at the Winthrop Research Building on Dec. 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. where the public can hear more about the project and ask PSEG questions, Whalen said.

There may be a second meeting about the project if deemed necessary, but a time and place have not yet been decided on for that meeting, Whalen said.
