The Great Neck Park District takes enormous pride in servicing its residents with a variety of delightful activities and first-rate facilities. Great Neck House, which serves as a hub for the park district community’s cultural activity, has programs and classes for adults, children, movies, art exhibits and live performances.

Movies are shown every weekend from September through June and classes are offered year round. Recitals, concerts and lectures, as well as family entertainment, are offered at the weekly “Sundays at three” performances.

Free nature programs take place in Great Neck or around Long Island. Registration for both children and adult classes is now taking place at Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Ave. Non-resident registration is available beginning Sept. 9, non-resident fees apply. Tennis stickers, guest coupons, daily and monthly parking tickets and parking permits, mooring and ramp permits can all be obtained at Great Neck House

The Parkwood Indoor Tennis Center and Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink are located at 65 Arrandale Ave. Tennis classes are offered to all ages and levels. Both seasonal and open court time is available for those interested.

Registration is ongoing at the tennis center on a first-come, first-served basis. The Skate School welcomes everyone to the free open house on Sept. 15 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the rink. Come down to the rink to skate with your friends, play games, win prizes, meet the park district staff, coaches and pros. Learn about the skate school classes, hockey programs and winter swim program.

The Bears Ice Hockey house league is for all beginner hockey players, ages five through 12. There will be free clinics on Sept. 17 and 18 and a Bears open house on Friday, Sept. 20 between 6 and 7:30 p.m. There is no hockey experience necessary to participate. You will learn all aspects of the game through fun innovative drills. Included in this program are clinics, off-ice conditioning, special activities, scrimmages and intramural games.

All are welcome to attend the “Try-Hockey-For-Free Day” Saturday, Nov. 2. Everyone is welcome to be a spectator at the many college games played at the rink on Saturday and Sunday mornings (C.W. Post, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy). The park district also offers teens Special Teen Recreation Night every Friday between 8 and 10 p.m. at the rink. The ice rink is the “hottest” place in town for teens to skate and be social, all with adult supervision. Included are fun activities on and off the ice, music, exceptional lighting, tasty food at the snack bar and more. It’s the safest place for a teen to spend Friday nights while parents enjoy a night out with peace of mind.

There are lots of activities coming up in October. The annual HarvestFest at the Village Green, the Steppingstone Haunted Mansion and Kiddy Walk at Steppingstone Park, Halloween Magic Show and Special Halloween public sessions at the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink, to name a few.

There are picnic areas, softball diamonds, Har-Tru tennis courts, all- weather basketball courts, a soccer field, horseshoe pitching and Sled Hill for winter enjoyment. The Village Green is home to the Veterans’ Memorial, along with a formal rose garden, gazebo, bandstand for concerts and a children’s PlayGarden.

Beautiful Steppingstone Park overlooks the Long Island Sound and provides a beautiful marina, the Steppingstone Sailing School, a boat launching ramp and fishing dock, children’s playground, wading pool, picnic tables and the Steppingstone Waterside Theatre concerts every weekend during the summer for your entertainment.
