Currently, in its third year, the AP Seminar class at Mineola High School takes a humanities approach to research.

Open to all 10th-grade students, the class is taught by English teacher Albert Cavaluzzo and social studies teacher John Fretz, who guides students in finding topics and searching for credible sources by which to conduct their research. Students are urged to explore real-world problems for which they can present solutions. The course culminates with a written paper and presentation, as well as the AP exam.
Last year, 90 percent of the students scored a 3 or higher on the exam. Students can then elect to continue their work in the AP Research course.
