On Saturday, June 13, the Town Dock in Port Washington will once again be home to the Port Washington Farmers’ Market. The market, which runs from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday from June through November, is celebrating its 20th year!
Founded by lifelong Port residents Patti and Doug Wood the market features more than 18 vendors, offering freshly harvested organic vegetables and other food items, including organic coffee and, if you time it right, hot organic blueberry muffins.
“The market may look a little different this year,” says Patti. “We’re trying to keep the same friendly community atmosphere we’ve always had, but with new rules in place, it’s going to be a challenge.”
Regulations of the New York State Department of Ag and Markets requires all vendors and patrons to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance to the market.
A farmers’ market is the best and most trusted resource for freshly harvested, seasonal and locally produced nutritious vegetables and fruits. And because Port’s market is the only organic market in the state, customers can be assured they are not buying GMO varieties or those grown with chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.
“If we are permitted, we hope to once again be able to open our cafe and have some special events, including a free book exchange, cooking demonstrations, and a “how to” session on backyard vegetable gardens,” says Wood.
