Readers Write: Pope’s trip to death camp

The Island Now

Pope Francis is on five-day trip to Poland for events including Catholics’ World Youth Day.

Regarding World Youth Day there are about 2.5 million young people expected to be there who are there to profess their faith and hopefully to have lasting effects on their lives.

At Our Lady of the Snows Parish in North Floral Park, Father Jeremy Cana traveled with a group of pilgrims for this important event.

As reported two of these young people are Rony Moozhayil age 18 and Tashila Pere age 19, who are part of this pilgrimage.

I hope their experiences lead them to dedicate themselves to volunteer to help in the church, community and those in need as I hope the many at this event are inspired to do the same as well.

As a Catholic and Grand Knight of St. Anastasia’s Knights of Columbus,  I would also like to applaud Pope Francis for his visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi death camp.

As such I think his visit is sending a message to the world that the killing of over 6 million Jews must never occur again and to any other people.

In the guest book he signed he wrote begging God forgiveness for so much cruelty. In closing let me say that Pope Francis be blessed for all the good he is trying to do for humanity.
