Bank robberies not connected: Police

The robbery of a Capital One bank in Flower Hill on Thursday was likely not related to robberies that took place on the South Shore at around the same time, police said.

At 3:35 p.m. on Thursday, police said a 6-foot-tall black man between 25-30 years old, wearing a dark winter cap, dark jacket and dark pants walked into the bank at 1085 Northern Boulevard and handed the teller a robbery note.

The subject handed the teller a note declaring a robbery and shortly thereafter fled the bank westbound on Northern Boulevard carrying an unknown amount of money, police said.

Police said neither the five employees nor the three customers in the bank at the time of the robbery were injured.

The Capital One in Flower Hill was robbed in between robberies that took place in Plainview and later in Merrick, police said.

At 3:02 p.m. on Thursday, police said a 6-foot-2 white man wearing dark clothing robbed the Chase Bank at 1064 Old Country Road, and at 4:22 p.m. the Roslyn Savings Bank in Merrick was robbed by a 5-foot-6 white man who also wore white clothing.

But the Flower Hill robbery was likely committed by a different subject, police said. Police told Newsday the Plainview and Merrick robberies may be linked.
