Parente drops out of campaign for judge

East Williston Deputy Mayor Bonnie Parente has dropped out of the race for Nassau County judge for the 3rd District.

Citing pressing work obligations, Parente said she had changed her mind about making the race on the Republican ticket in the November election.

“I work at the New York Racing Association, which has kept me quite busy and I have decided to hold off on my candidacy until next year,” she said.

Parente was nominated by the county Republican Party last month.

Parente said she has aspired to become a judge, but it was not something she sought. She said local representatives of the Nassau County Republican party “reached out to” her and asked if she would consider running for district court judge this year.

Parente was elected as trustee for the Village of East Williston last year.

An experienced attorney in labor law, she has been director of human resources for the New York Racing Association since 2005.  She has also worked at Newsday and at several Long Island law firms, including Jackson Lewis LLP.
