An early-morning car accident last Tuesday sent one unidentified person to the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset after a vehicle overturned on a Long Island Expressway service road in the Village of North Hills.

At 1:27 a.m. last Tuesday, the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department responded to the accident, which occurred on the Long Island Expressway North Service Road between New Hyde Park Road and Community Drive, a fire department news release said.

The car overturned into a utility pole, knocking down live power lines, and leaving its driver pinned underneath the vehicle, the news release said.

Firefighters said that once the power lines were de-actived, crews were able to remove the driver from the vehicle.

The unidentified person was then taken North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset by a Nassau County Police Department ambulance, with the assistance of Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department emergency service personnel, the news release said.

No further information was release about the driver of the vehicle.

North Shore University hospital spokeswoman Betty Olt was unable to provide information about the drivers’ condition.

Manhasset-Lakeville firefighters searched the surrounding wooded area near the scene of the accident for additional riders in the vehicle with thermal imaging cameras, the news release said.
