Outstanding Sewanhaka physical education students

The Sewanhaka Central High School District announced that 10 seniors received Outstanding Physical Education Student Awards, presented by the Nassau Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

They are Kimberly Rodriguez and Javon Santos from Elmont Memorial High School, Harry Schlechter and Jayson Velasco from Floral Park Memorial High School, Madison Wakely and Frank Scarantino from H. Frank Carey High School, Antoinette Torre and Anthony Treadwell from New Hyde Park Memorial High School, and Marisa Ogden and Jordan Pachecho from Sewanhaka High School.

The award recipient exemplifies and demonstrates an understanding of the New York State Learning Standards for Health and Physical Education by exhibiting a physically active lifestyle, both during and outside of school; demonstrating responsible personal and social behavior, including good sportsmanship, character, civility and citizenship; demonstrating leadership and being a positive influence on their peers; demonstrating and valuing a healthy lifestyle and lifelong learning; exhibiting exceptional achievement in physical education class; and achieving a high level of fitness on an approved fitness test.
