On March 8, 120 women and girls from North Hempstead and beyond gathered together to celebrate International Women’s Day at The Congregational Church in Manhasset.

Speakers for the evening included New York State Senator Elaine Phillips, Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, and Farrah Mozawalla, acting executive director of Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs.

VIP guests also included North Hempstead Town Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio and Rande Bynum, CEO of Girl Scouts of Nassau County.

During the evening, North Hempstead high school students, Grade D’Ariano, Ayesha Munawer and Maria Lozano Vargas were honored by the Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs with a Changemaker Citation Award for outstanding leadership and service in the community.

The dinner raised necessary funds for One World Girl 2018 programming that empowers, educates and champions every girl to live her unique life story and to become a changemaker in her community and the world.

The dinner was supported by The Congregational Church Manhasset, The Islamic Center of Long Island and The Reconstructionist Synagogue. Catering was provided by Ayhan from Ayhan’s Mediterranean Marketplace of Port Washington.
