NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a virtual public hearing of the qualified voters of the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District, Towns of Hempstead and North Hempstead, Nassau County, New York, will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. for the presentation of the budget, although the budget will not be voted upon at that time. Information as to how to join and participate in the virtual Public Hearing can be found on the District’s website: https://www.nhp-gcp.org/

AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the Annual Meeting and Election will be held via absentee ballot on Tuesday June 9, 2020, at which time all persons who are qualified to vote and who have registered may vote on the budget expenditures set forth herein and for the election of members of the Board of Education of the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District and the Hillside Public Library Board of Trustees.

AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school and library purposes, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained on the District’s website during the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the Annual Meeting and Election.

AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law requires the District to attach to its proposed budget an exemption report. Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how the total assessed value of the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation, list every type of exemption granted by statutory authority, and show the cumulative impact of each type of exemption, the cumulative amount expected to be received as payments in lieu of taxes (PILOT) and the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. In addition, the exemption report will be posted on any bulletin board maintained by the District for public notices and on the District’s website.

AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that individuals interested in running for the Board of Education may declare themselves to be a candidate for the offices of member of the Board of Education and member of the Hillside Public Library of Trustees provided that they submit a statement that includes the candidate’s name and address, along with the seat for which the candidate is running including the name of the incumbent and the length of the term to be filled to the District Clerk, by emailing her at ldibernardo@nhp-gcp.org by 5:00 p.m. on May 11, 2020.

The following vacancies are to be filled on the Board of Education:

For a term of three (3) years, commencing July 1, 2020 and ending June 30, 2023

Tara Notine (last incumbent)

For a term of three (3) years, commencing July 1, 2020 and ending June 30, 2023

James Reddan (last incumbent)

The following vacancies are to be filled on the Hillside Public Library Board of Trustees:

For a term of five (5) years commencing July 1, 2020 and ending June 30, 2025

Sabera Saadullah (last incumbent)

Each vacancy is a separate specific office and a separate declaration is required to nominate a candidate to each separate office.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN, that the following propositions will be presented and voted upon at the Annual Meeting and Election to be held as provided above on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

PROPOSITION NO. 1

NEW HYDE PARK – GARDEN CITY PARK UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT

BUDGET

“RESOLVED, that the annual budget as proposed by the Board of Education of the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Union Free School District, in the sum set forth in the budget estimate heretofore filed pursuant to law, for the maintenance and upkeep of the schools and personnel of the District for the year July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 be accepted, and that the necessary tax be levied therefor. Adoption of the budget requires a tax levy increase which does not exceed the statutory tax increase limit for this school fiscal year and therefore does not exceed the state tax cap.”

PROPOSITION NO.2

HILLSIDE PUBLIC LIBRARY

BUDGET

“RESOLVED, that the annual budget as proposed by the Board of Trustees of the Hillside Public Library in the sum set forth in the budget estimate heretofore filed pursuant to law, for the maintenance and upkeep of the library and personnel of said library for the year July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 be accepted, and that the necessary tax be levied therefor.”

PROPOSITION NO. 3

SEWANHAKA CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT

BUDGET

“RESOLVED, that the proposed budget of expenditures of Sewanhaka Central High School

District of Elmont, Floral Park, Franklin Square and New Hyde Park in the County of Nassau, New York for the year 2020-2021 for the purpose shown in the statement of estimated expenditures adopted by the Board of Education, be and the same hereby is approved and the amount thereof shall be raised by a levy of a tax upon the taxable property within said Sewanhaka Central High School District, after first deducting the monies available from state aid and other sources as provided by law.”

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Registry will not meet for the purpose of registration. If you are not currently registered to vote, you can register with the Board of Elections by filing an online application with the Department of Motor Vehicles that will enable the District to transmit an absentee ballot to you for this election. The online DMV voter registration can be found at https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/electronic-voter-registration-application.

The Register for this election shall include all qualified persons who register online with DMV, and all persons who have been previously registered for and voted at any annual or special election of the District held or conducted at any time during the years 2016 and 2019 inclusive. The Register for this annual election and vote will be filed in the office of the District Clerk.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the District by submitting a Military Voter Registration Application to the District Clerk, no later than 5:00p.m. on May14,2020. A copy of the Military Voter Registration Application is available by contacting the District Clerk by email, ldibernardo@nhp-gcp.org and online located at the District’s website at www.nhp-gcp.org. A military voter is entitled to designate a preference to receive a military voter registration, military ballot application or military ballot by mail, facsimile or electronic mail. Such designation will remain in effect until revoked or changed by the voter. If no preference is designated, the District will transmit the military voter registration by mail.

A list of all persons who are issued absentee ballots will be on file with the District Clerk.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that voting on June 9, 2020 will be by absentee ballot. No absentee voter’s ballot will be canvassed unless it has been received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on June 9, 2020.
