Dr. David Chalif, a resident of Oyster Bay and co-director of Northwell Health’s Brain Aneurysm Center, was honored at the first annual Brain Aneurysm Foundation’s Champion Awards. The event took place on May 10th at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan.
“Dr. Chalif is one of the most passionate neurosurgeons I have ever met,” said Christine Buckley, BAF’s executive director. “Not only is his love for medicine and surgery evident, but more importantly, what is unique is his heartfelt concern for his patients in their recovery journey.”
As a member of the BAF medical advisory board, Dr. Chalif has devoted his time to securing grants, participating in Congressional Advocacy Day, and educating at the BAF’s research symposiums to regional neurosurgeons and award recipients.
“Seeing Dr. Chalif over the past nine years at Northwell Health’s annual Long Island Brain Aneurysm Awareness Walk at Jones Beach, which he founded, is what really separates himself from others in his field,” added Ms. Buckley. “He exudes pure joy at the sight of the many patients he has treated over the years and is delighted to celebrate with them to raise awareness and research funding.”
Dr. Chalif is also Northwell Health’s chief of vascular neurosurgery and over the past 32 years, he has been involved with the treatment of complex cerebral aneurysms, vascular malformations and brain tumors at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset.
He has helped recruit new attending physicians and has been a fundamental part of the development of the aneurysm program, leading to its current position as one of the busiest and comprehensive cerebrovascular programs in the tri-state region.
“I am very honored to have received this award from the Brain Aneurysm Foundation with whom we have built a solid partnership over the years,” said Dr. Chalif. “We look forward to working together even more in the future as we join forces to promote brain aneurysm awareness and early detection.”
