North High students participate in French poetry competition

Fifteen students from North High were awarded prizes at the annual French Poetry Competition at Hofstra University on Wednesday, Dec. 6.

This annual competition is sponsored by the Nassau County Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French. Participants compete against other students in their grade level in two categories: original poetry and recitation of famous poetry.

Eleven students from North High earned awards for their original poems written in French. Level 2 (grade 9) winners are: Adam Sanders, first prize; Chloe Chu, second prize; Molly Sherry, first runner-up; Liel Ezroni, third runner-up. Level 3 (grade 10) winners are: Sarah Frankel, first prize; Adena Etaat, second prize. Level 4 (grade 11) winners are: Michaela Ben-Sorek, second prize; Christopher Lu, first runner-up; Daniella Nakash, third runner-up. Level 5 (grade 12) winners are: Rebecca Hirschhorn, first runner-up; Hong Tam, second runner-up.

Four students received prizes for reciting a famous poem in French from memory. Congratulations to Nina Phillips, second runner-up in level 2; Daisy Korman and Clara Sarfati, who tied as third runner-up in level 3; and Molly Racsko, third runner-up in level 4. 

The annual French Poetry Competition is open to students from public and private schools across the county. Each winner receives a certificate of achievement and a French-inspired gift.
