North High School junior Preethi Kumar has been awarded Honorable Mention in the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) 2019 Alexander Bodini Prize for Diversity, in recognition of her efforts to promote harmony and respect.
The Alexander Bodini Prize for Diversity is awarded each year to one elementary and one secondary student who has exhibited extraordinary leadership in the effort to make his or her school No Place for Hate.
Preethi is an active member of the North High committee that develops and executes school-wide activities to promote understanding, acceptance, and respect for differences. As a result of these activities, North High earned its first No Place for Hate designation this school year.
“Preethi’s extraordinary personality has made her a leader of this program as well as an example to all students and faculty members that have the pleasure to interact with her,” says North High teacher and Student Organization advisor Alison Silk. “We are so fortunate to have her on the committee and look forward to her ideas for next year’s program.”
Award recipients are selected by an ADL committee based on the recommendation of a school staff member. Preethi’s accolade was announced at the ADL No Place for Hate Recognition Ceremony in Manhattan on May 23.
