Port Washington Parking District patrons who park their cars in Port Washington will no longer need to obtain papers or stickers to prove they are registered.

Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and town Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio announced on Monday that the town is adopting a new paperless parking system, which will begin in the Port Washington Parking District.

“This new initiative will allow Port Washington Parking District residents to acquire their permits and vouchers online from anywhere at any time,” Bosworth said. “Not only will this be more convenient for our residents, but it will also save our taxpayers money.”

The new system removes the need for any parking stickers or decals, and will save “a minimum of $150,000 over 10 years from the parking district budget,” a release from the Town of North Hempstead said.

The town Board approved an agreement Gtechna USA last November to provide the Town of North Hempstead with the software and services necessary to establish this new paperless system.

Town parking enforcement vehicles will be equipped with license plate readers to scan and verify parking permissions, and residents will be able to apply for and obtain their parking permits on the town’s website, according to the release.

“I am very excited for the parking district to implement this convenient and cost effective parking permit service,” De Giorgio said. “Gtechna will help to alleviate some of the stress of commuter parking, while reducing expenses within the Parking District. I look forward to using ground-breaking technology to further assist in resolving parking issues throughout my District.”

A similar “pay by plate” system is used in the cities of Baltimore, Md., Buffalo, Flint, Mich., Galveston, Texas, and Miami, FLla. the release said.

Gtechna developed e-Citation software to automate law enforcement and parking activity for police and public works departments in North America.

According to their website, Gtechna “offers public safety and parking agencies the first complete and integrated multi-application software designed to automate the entire range of law enforcement activities.

From license plate recognition to code enforcement and parking software, gtechna Officer helps you manage all aspects of your enforcement program efficiently and cost-effectively.”

The program does not have definite start date yet but will begin early 2016.
