NHP Wildcats teams square off in draw

The Island Now

Players 4, Coaches 2.

After their defeat two weeks ago, the Coaches challenged the Top Soccer Players to a rematch.   Unfortunately for the coaches, the young athletes once again demonstrated who the better players were.

Stefani Egre, Andrea Matteo, Matthew Saraiva and Billy Russo all scored, with assists from midfielders Tristan Yang and Sebastian Gonzalez.

Michael and Andrew Raihl, Debbie Chin and David Glass played tough defense and kept the Coach scoring to a minimum.

The coaches were able to put two goals on the scoreboard but alas, it was the players’ game and now the coaches will have to wait for another chance at a rematch.

Red Knights 3, Green Hornets 3

It was another very competitive game for the Intermediates, who continue to improve each week with their dribbling and passing skills.  Sophocles Gianakis, with an assist from midfielder Demitri Georgrdakis, put the Red Knights ahead with a beautiful goal.  But Chris Cooney of the Green Hornets couldn’t be stopped, dribbling down the field at a furious speed to tie the game.

Sebastian Pinto and Desmond O’Callaghan of the Green Hornets,  made several attempts at the goal, but Red Knights goalie Josh Hom was able to get a piece of the ball every time.

After Josh Hom came out of the goal, he scored on the field to put the Red Knights ahead, 2-1.  Not to be deterred, Chris Cooney again took control of the ball and tied the game.

Playing well all game, Red Knights’ midfielder John Bertuccio finally connected and put his team up 3-2. With just seconds left in the game, there was a hand ball in front of the Green Hornets’ goal and  Alex Laroia scored on the penalty shot and the game ended in a tie, 3-3.
