SOUNDERS (Coach Ash Khan)

In their first game of the spring, the Sounders boys played a competitive match and took a victory 5-4 over the Dynamo. Sounders forwards started the game with early attacks, penetrating through Dynamo defense multiple times, scoring three goals in the first half. Striker Saif Ali Khan broke the ice with a stunning hat trick against the opponent. The 20-minute second half continued to be more intense as team Dynamo responded with counter attacks, closing the gap, but the Sounders hit back with another goal. The game was 4-3 when midfielder Shane Dillon drove the ball from center, circle dodging Dynamo’s defense and put it past the goalie with a great assist from center forward Joseph Di Nardo raising the score to 5-3. Dynamo answered right back with another goal within two minutes for a final score of 5-4.

FIRE (Coaches Chris Bernic and Jay Bigeni)

The New Hyde Park Fire got off to a quick start in their opening game of the spring season. Jackson Bigeni found space along the right sideline and was able to capitalize twice in the early going, giving the Fire a 2-1 advantage. The crew kept pace and tied the score at 2 before Bigeni would add two more to his total. Vincent Leva worked hard in the midfield and scored on a blistering shot that landed just inside the left post and widened the Fire lead. The back line was firm with excellent defense from Eric Oberwiler and Joseph Calandra. Leo Tching paced the midfield and earned possession on several occasions, and Caleb Yu fought hard for every loose ball.  The second half featured some fierce defending and attacking from Sherwin Fernandes. Sherwin would find the back of the net twice along the way.  Aidan Bernic was able to maneuver his way out of several tight spots and added a goal to the Fire’s total with a beautiful penalty kick.  Mateo Mrakovcic and Tristan Ranallo came on strong with some good defensive work, and Ryan Oommen kept a lid on the Fire attempts with quality goal tending. Darsh Mirchandani made his presence known with hard work and hustle, and helped the Fire to an 8-3 victory. It was a beautiful day and a great way to kick off the season. Go Fire!

GALAXY (Coaches Scott Liewehr and Sam Thomas)

The Galaxy played a hard-fought season opener against the Sounders to a 1-1 tie. The boys from both teams played well and had great energy throughout the game. The first half saw numerous runs downfield, with shots on goal by Zain Begawala, Will Handley and Christian Reger (2). Samuel Hu showed his offensive prowess with a long dribble through the defense, but his shot went just wide of the goal. Daniel Cho drew some “ahhhs” from the crowd with his fearless header of a high goal kick. Gavin Dugger and Ewan Zehnter played strong defense and Nico Liewehr held the midfield. Down 0-1 early in the second half, the Galaxy got a free kick near midfield on a hand ball. Reger struck a kick that would make David Beckham jealous, sending it through all players and directly into the upper right corner of the goal. The crowd from both teams went crazy. Later, Simon Thomas sent a beautiful corner kick out to Will Handley who timed his kick perfectly, but ultimately watched his ball sail just over the crossbar. Albert Kuo and Ethan Moy teamed up to control the midfield and provide a staunch defense.

RED BULLS (Coaches Rob Honovic and Boris Ribaric)

The New Hyde Park Red Bulls opened the 2015 spring season with a victory over the New Hyde Park Revolution by the score of 6-4.  Kaleb Dyasi led the attack, scoring four goals and displayed a solid all around game. Thomas Honovic scored a goal of his own, showing improved dedication and hustle.  Vasillios Dallas also added a goal.  In addition to scoring a goal, Vasillios provided the team with sound goaltending throughout the game.  Both Matthew Ribaric and Arnav Kholi also helped out in goal.  All three goaltenders made key saves during important moments of the match.  While on the field, both Matthew and Arnav played one of their best games, making great runs and creating many offensive opportunities for the team.  On defense, Austin Lee and Om Thakur had a strong game, making great defensive reads and stops throughout.  In the midfield, Devon Shah paced the Red Bulls with his steady smart play.  At forward, Yusuf Hassan and Vincent Sparacello showed their hustle, never giving up on the play.  Giovanni Salmeron displayed great speed by making runs and almost scoring a goal of his own.
