Members of the New Hyde Park-Mineola Runners Club met with Boy Scout Troop 298 at Holy Spirit to support the troop.

Troop 298 is a longtime supporter of the runners’ annual U.S.A. Track and Field Long Island Division Championship 8k race and community event; scouts generously volunteer at the event. Volunteers receive credits toward their badges and the runners donate proceeds from the event for the overall benefit of the troop.

The runners also support Boy Scout Troop 544 out of Manor Oaks School, and the Nassau County Firefighter’s Operation Wounded Warrior program—which provides benefits and services to wounded veterans on Long Island, as well as at Walter Reid, Camp Lajune, and Fort Bragg. This vital volunteer firefighter program provides goods and services above and beyond what the VA provides. In December 2018 the program delivered 60 IPads, 10 PCs, and two packed U-Haul trucks to these three military bases and their personnel.

The runners have donated over $40,000 to their charities in less than a decade. In 2018 the Town of North Hempstead recognized the runners for their dedication to community service.

The runners’ 42nd Annual Championship 8K Race/Community event is scheduled for Sunday, June 2, at the Denton Avenue School.
