NHP Bulldogs bite CSH team

The Island Now

The New Hyde Park PAL Bulldogs Lacrosse Team battled the Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks this past Saturday. Cold Spring Harbor at home were favorites against the young 2011 Bulldog Team.

Apparently the Bulldogs knew they had to make an impression from the opening faceoff.

Short a few middies, Coach Mirabile made some strategic line changes and really attempted to get the boys fired up in one of his pre-game rants.

Well, it worked, as the Bulldogs came out hitting.

CHS scored first but the Bulldogs physical presence was felt.

The early score may have shown the Bulldogs behind 1-0 but in reality they were setting the tone for what they had to come.

As the first quarter of play came to a close, defensive coordinator Charles Chiarello made some adjustments to the defense to work out some kinks. The second quarter resumed action with what coach Mirabile calls “The Chris & J.J. Show” as midfielder Chris Valentine and Attacker J.J. Alecia worked their magic and unleashed a barrage of shots on the Seahawk goalie.

At the half the Bulldogs had the lead 5-4 and the home CSH favorites were attempting to regroup.

The Bulldogs started the second half even more physical than the first, any inside action was met by a hard hitting Bulldog defense who had the home team noticeably on edge.

As the second half progressed, Valentine and Alecia continued their assault scoring 5 and 6 goals respectively. The NHP laxers also managed to keep the ball in Bulldog possession thanks to the speed and stick-work of Matty Lorandini, Austin Schubert, and John Imello.

As time ran out the Bulldog offense was still moving forward with a goal from Robby Mirabile.

A final score of 12-7 brought a pack of Bulldogs out to the midline were they celebrated with goalie Nick Arman.

Coach Mirabile noted “they played outstanding and worked hard to limit mistakes, It’s a proud day to be a New Hyde Park Bulldog.”
