New photography exhibit and winter programs at The Art Guild

The Island Now

The Art Guild is inviting all photographers to enter a new juried competition and exhibition, “Shedding Light on the Subject.”

Angle, standpoint, viewpoint… what makes your photographic perspective special and captivating? The Art Guild is looking for creativity and originality — work that reflects your unique approach and style.

All photographers, 18 years and older (high school students ages 14-18 years may enter in the student category), are invited to submit up to three photographic works for consideration. The deadline for submissions is midnight on Friday, Jan. 12. A prospectus can be downloaded at www.theartguild.org.

The juror of awards is Katherine Criss, a fine art photographer with more than sixty years of professional experience in photography, painting and in creating opportunities for artists to share their vision. After completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, she established a freelance photography business and consulted on projects such as a collection of vintage photographs for the National Board of the YMCA. She joined Professional Women Photographers and served as president for seven years. She is a member of the b.j.spoke gallery in Huntington, and founded the ongoing Artist Circle group that meets regularly at the gallery. She has images in the collection of La Maison Europeene de la Photography. Her work may be viewed at www.katherinecriss.com.

The exhibit will be on view at The Art Guild’s home, Elderfields Preserve, 200 Port Washington Blvd. in Manhasset from Feb. 3 to 25.  Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 pm or by appointment. An Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 3-5 pm.
