New LED lights on Hillside Ave. in NHP

The Island Now

North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Council Member Lee Seeman have announced that the Town’s Department of Public Works has installed 80 new Light Emitting Diodes (LED) High Pressure Sodium street lights along Hillside Avenue in New Hyde Park from Denton Avenue to the New York City border.

The new LED lights are expected to provide up to a 56 percent savings in electrical costs. The funding for the project comes from the Town’s Sidewalk District capital plan.

“Replacing existing street lighting on Hillside Avenue with more reliable, efficient and long-lasting LEDS improves the lighting, visibility and driving safety of the neighborhood, all while reducing electrical costs for our taxpayers,” said Bosworth.

“These lights will increase visibility at night for both for drivers and pedestrians, as well as result in making our neighborhoods safer,” said Seeman.

The Hillside Avenue LED street lighting project replaces 80 outdated incandescent 250-watt fixtures with LED fixtures that use just 110 watts.
