The New Hyde Park-Mineola Runner’s Club donated $4,000 to the Nassau County Firefighter’s Operation Wounded Warrior program, during its January meeting at Tully Park.

The club also visited Boy Scout Troop 298 and donated $500 to the troop. Funds were raised as part of the club’s 40th annual 2017 USA Track & Field Long Island Division 8k Championship Race and Community Walk, held at the Denton Avenue School.

The Nassau County Firefighter’s Operation Wounded Warrior program provides benefits and services to wounded Long Island veterans above and beyond what the VA provides, including to veterans living in greater New Hyde Park and Mineola.

The club has sponsored this volunteer firefighter program for many years.  Boy Scout Troop 298 is the club’s other major sponsorship; the troop manages water stops at the yearly race event.

The club’s 41st annual 2018 championship race/community walk is Sunday June 3, at the Denton Avenue School.  For information on how to become a sponsor and to participate contact Harold Axelrod, the NHP-M president at bcshja@msn.com  or Stephen Cipot at Stephenjcipot@hotmail.com
