This week at NEFCU’s headquarters in Westbury, the local credit union awarded the top prize, $20,000, in its 2018 Making A Difference Premier Scholarship competition to New Hyde Park’s Ismenia Ginebra, a recent graduate from Kellenberg Memorial High School in Uniondale.

Ginebra graduated third in her class with a 97.9 GPA, and is off to Tufts University outside of Boston to start her college days.

Since its inception 10 years ago, NEFCU has awarded more than $1 million to worthy high school students as part of its Premier Scholarship program.

The annual program selects one exceptional Long Island student who is a member (or has a parent or guardian that is a member) of the Westbury-based credit union.

To apply for this scholarship, applicants needed to have completed at least 50 hours of community service, a four-year overall high school grade of 90 or above, and be a recent recipient of NEFCU’s Making a Difference Family Scholarship or High School Scholarship.
