The Island Now

Shiraz Restaurant was filled to the rafters with more than 100 people who attended the Annual Barbara Mandell Tennis Party on Thursday, Oct. 3. The party has become a yearly institution in Great Neck, and is a testament to Mandell’s huge following of people who appreciate the community service she provides organizing tennis games at Great Neck’s Memorial Field.

The crowd socialized and danced the night away as the Four Aces, all members of the tennis group, played pop and rock hits, adding to the evening’s festivities. Park District Commissioner Dan Nachmanoff and Tennis Junction owners Norman and Rachel Lee were among the many guests.

“It’s nice to have Memorial Field’s Tennis Courts back to the way they were 15 years ago — the no. 1 place in Great Neck for tennis, as well as a social gathering place to make new friends and catch up with old friends,” Mandell said during her speech.

The commissioner expressed his thanks to Mandell for her dedication and hard work.
