Molloy exhibit to feature ex faculty chairperson

The Island Now

As part of Molloy College’s 60th anniversary celebration The Frank and Gertrude Kaiser Art Gallery at Molloy College will present an exhibition on the work of Mary Ann Petry, former art faculty chairperson.

Petry was a member of the Molloy Art faculty from 1962 – 1973, and an Amityville Dominican from 1942-1974. She was a mentor to many students at Molloy – organizing art exhibits and encouraging students to enter art related professions.

During her career Petry’s work was exhibited regularly in Long Island and at regional institutions such as the Brooklyn Museum, Pratt Institute, Lasell College and Fordham University.

The exhibition will run from March 10 – April 25 and will feature prints – woodcuts, etchings and lithographs as well as paintings. The show is augmented by photographs of Petry working in the art department and with students on campus.

There will be an opening reception on Thursday March 10, from 3 to 6 p.m. The community is invited.
