Students at Munsey Park Elementary School in Manhasset recently took an in-house field trip to see the stars, as the Starlab mobile mini-planetarium was set up in the school’s science lab for a week.

Starlab provided a unique complement to the first- and third-grade units on astronomy and the sixth-graders’ studies of plate tectonics, which explores physical geography and both past and present movement of Earth’s surface.

Every first-, third- and sixth-grader had the opportunity to take in the “Night Sky” presentation from inside the inflated dome while learning about Greek mythology as it relates to the solar system.

Students analyzed the constellations, the phases of the moon, the temperature of the stars and more as Munsey Park K-6 Science Specialist Kim Viscovich conducted lessons under the simulated night sky.
