Mineola student honored for dedication to Hispanic community

Mineola High School senior Juan Lopez Torres was honored by Senator Anna M. Kaplan as part of her Hispanic Heritage Celebration Oct. 10. Honoring Hispanic culture, heritage and contributions, the event was held at the Port Washington Public Library and featured dancers and performers from Latin American cultures.

Juan was chosen by the faculty and administration of Mineola High School for his leadership and dedication to the Hispanic Community.

“Juan is a leader both inside and outside of the classroom.  He consistently looks for ways to better himself, as well as ways to help his peers, “Mineola Principal Whittney Smith said.

He continued, “Juan embodies a growth mindset and possesses the grit and determination that will make him successful in life.”

Social studies teacher Mrs. Meza, soccer coach Mr. Cavalluzzo and guidance counselor Nicole Lebowitz echoed Juan’s leadership characteristics.
