Mineola man struck, killed by LIRR train

The Island Now

An elderly Mineola man was struck and killed by a westbound Long Island Rail Road train on Tuesday morning at 8:45 a.m., a spokeswoman for the commuter rail service said.

The man was identified as George Hahn, 66, of Mineola, according to MTA spokewoman Marjorie Anders,

Circumstances of how the man came to be struck by the train were unknown as of Wednesday, but no criminality was attached to the incident, Anders said. She said MTA Police are still investigating the incident.

The man was struck by a westbound train that left Speonk at 7:12 a.m. headed for Hunterspoint, she said.

Anders said the accident caused delays of 45 minutes in both directions on the railroad’s main line because trains had to run on a single track while the incident was being investigated.

Three trains had to be held in their stations as a result of the fatality, she said.
