Congratulations to Mineola High School teachers Krista O’Donnell, Claudia Rudnet, and Chris Toomey for being announced as winners in this year’s Jovia Financial “Funding Your Ideas” Teacher Grant program! The grant program awards up to $500 to teachers and educators for bringing ideas to life in the classroom.
O’Donnell and Rudnet’s award will help fund the Mineola High School Student Service Center “One World” program.
The One World program is geared toward creating memorable experiences that forge bonds within the school while coming together for community outreach. One World activities help students achieve the district’s mission of contributing to a global society.
The grant money will expand this program, which serves the high school’s diverse student population, with the hopes of allowing students to participate in an accessible service program right after school.
This year marks the eighth year Toomey has received the Funding Your Ideas Teacher Grant.
The $500 award will go toward new music stands for eighth-grade band students. While the school already has access to functional music stands, they are old and run-down. These extra funds from Jovia allow the department to go above and beyond for students.
“It might be a small thing, but I feel that by investing in new equipment for our students and showing them that we care about their education, it will increase their effort into their own education as well,” said Toomey.
