Midget 18U prepares for State Champs

The Great Neck Bruins Midget Major team is peaking at the right time. After tryouts in May, the Midget Majors set a goal to win the state championships. They are living up to their dream by doing everything necessary to get there.

They are about to clinch a spot to attend the March 2013 State Championships in Rochester. This team is unique in many ways. They don’t have a number-one line like most teams have; they have three lines that are equal in strength. They have depth in scoring. From the beginning, the coaches have focused on defense, stating that defense wins games. With a defensive mind going into the game, this team has a brick wall in net. The goalie stands on his head during every game, impressing the coaches and the teammates, game-in and game-out.

There is a lot left of the season yet to be played before the state championships. The Midget Majors will compete at both the Long Island Amateur Hockey League and Hudson Valley Hockey playoffs before they can focus on the bigger goal in states. To watch this team play and cheer them on, come down to the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink at the Parkwood Sports Complex at 65 Arrandale Avenue on Saturday afternoons at 12:30 p.m.
