The Manhasset High School Football Team under the leadership of Head Coach Jay Iaquinta finished a delayed season with an undefeated, untied, 8-0 record and the Nassau County Conference Three Championship.
Based on this outstanding accomplishment the squad was awarded The Rutgers Cup. This most prestigious honor signifies the best team in all of Nassau County and includes all participating schools in all conferences as well as Catholic and private schools.
It should be noted that the last and probably only other time Manhasset was awarded the Rutgers Cup was in 1957. Multiple players on the team were identified for individual awards and accomplishments, but this was a total team effort. With Iaquinta at the helm the team has made the playoffs in all three of his seasons as Coach.
As a part of the upcoming Al Fresco event on Sunday, August 8th on North Plandome Road, the Manhasset Chamber Of Commerce will sponsor “The MHS Football Team’s Ring Evening.”
The Players will receive their beautiful championship rings at 7:00 p.m. that evening in front of Gino’s of Manhasset. Labeled “A Midsummer Night’s Team” this event will provide all attending a fine way to show their appreciation for their historic season as well as to support all the shops and restaurants sponsoring this wonderful event.
North Plandome Road will be closed to traffic from Hillside Avenue to Colonial Parkway.
So, come one and come all; enjoy the foods from all of the participating restaurants, some popular music from some local bands, and acknowledge our fine young student-athletes as 29 of the 35 players graduated this past June and will be heading off to the next step on their journey through life shortly.
Manhasset Al Fresco is part of the Town of North Hempstead’s “Lift up local” initiative. Hosted by the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, outdoor dining, shopping and entertainment will be on Plandome Road throughout the summer until October. The events are scheduled to take place every other Sunday, alternating every other week between South Plandome Road and North Plandome Road from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. creating a pedestrian-only zone.
Live entertainment for August 8th features performances by local DJ Kieran Ahern, The John Byrnes Band, School of Rock House Band, and a belly dance performance and tutorial.
