A 95-minute presentation focused on student performance on Regents Exams, Advance Placement Exams, the SAT and the ACT, among other exams, highlighted the Manhasset Board of Education meeting last Thursday night.

The presentation was led by Charles Leone, the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

Superintendent Charlie Cardillo said the presentation was a “comprehensive review of student performance for the 2014-2015 school year.”

“[The presentation] helps to inform instruction for students,” Cardillo said. “[It] helps guide us for the upcoming school year.”

Cardillo also said that the data from the presentation is looked at “student by student.”

“We’re constantly looking at ways to support students so that students can be successful as they challenge themselves to take more rigorous courses,” Cardillo said.

Members of the district’s administrative team, which is made up of coordinators from a number of different disciplines, including math, science, social studies, English and guidance, played a prominent role during the presentation.

“[The administrative team was able to] give their perspective through their discipline and the lens of their subject area,” Cardillo said.

A number of students also received recognition from the board for honors they previously received.

Seniors Niranjan Senthilkumar and Vedaant Kukadia, junior Raymond Huffman and freshman Sophia Vincoff were recognized for honors they received from science research programs that they participated in over the summer.

Seniors Matthew Alonso, Nicole Chee, Brooke DiGia, Alyssa Sanders, Alexander Schwartz and Jenna Tishler were recognized for being named National Merit semifinalists.

The students received this honor earlier this fall.

ThebBoard will be holding its Recognition Ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Black Box Theatre.

The next regular Board meeting will take place on Thursday Oct. 22 at the EOC building.
