The Manhasset School District is proud to announce the appointment of Lauren Tallarine as the new district coordinator of mathematics. Tallarine is a familiar face, having worked in the district for the past three years.

Since the beginning of the 2015-16 school year, Tallarine has taught numerous math courses at Manhasset Secondary School, including Accelerated Math, College Algebra, Common Core Algebra 2, Math 7, Math 7 Skills and Pre-Calculus. During this time, she has designed student-centered learning activities geared toward maximizing student engagement, retention and overall student confidence in mathematics.

“Since arriving in Manhasset, Ms. Tallarine has been a valuable member of the faculty, both for her instruction and her contributions toward enhancing our curriculum,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Vincent Butera. “Her collaborative and mentoring ways have left an indelible impact on staff and she has been an equally effective teacher to her students and communicator with parents.”

Tallarine’s past leadership experiences include serving as a new teacher mentor, co-adviser to the Math Honor Society and member of the Math Department Interviewing and Grading Policy committees. She has also served on the Scholastic Opportunities Academic Recognition and Character Education steering committees and is a member of the Instructional Support team.

“In 2001, while working in another school district, I hired Lauren, who was just beginning her career as a first year teacher. I saw from the start that she would soon become a master teacher, and during these recent years in Manhasset, I have witnessed her outstanding classroom skills help students of every ability level,” said Manhasset’s current Math Coordinator Raymond Scacalossi. “I am confident Lauren will excel in her new role and help other teachers become master teachers themselves, assuring continuity of excellence in the math department at Manhasset Secondary School.”

Prior to her appointment in Manhasset, Tallarine taught mathematics in the Elwood, Hauppauge and Wantagh school districts, as well as computer programming in Hauppauge. Additionally, she has instructed gifted and talented students in math and taught SAT prep. Tallarine’s affiliations include the Manhasset SCA, the Nassau County Math Teacher’s Association and the New York State PTA.
