Mangano precinct plan violates his No. 1 job

The Island Now

Dear Mr. Mangano,

You have to agree that public safety is the most important thing that an elected official does.

We had cops on the beat who knew every merchant and troublemaker and most perps, we had police on bicycles, we had two police cars for every one that now exists, we had police who knew every street, house, church, temple, school, park and store and who knew and communicated with local elected officials and people in charge of all those buildings.

Technology is an aid and can replace certain functions, but it cannot replace people with knowledge. Yes, we also had lower taxes, but they have not gone down as critical services were cut and will not go down as more critical services are cut.

Now we have your plan to eliminate half of the precinct buildings and staff in our county. There is no way this will aid public safety, the most important thing you do.

Ralph J. Kreitzman

Mayor of the

Village of Great Neck
