MacKay to lecture on L.I.’s sailing history

The Port Washington Yacht Club and Roslyn Landmark Society will present a lecture and book signing Dr. Robert B. MacKay on Thursday, March 26 at Port Washington Yacht Club.

The Port Washington Yacht Club is located at 1 Yacht Club Drive, Port Washington.

This audio-visual lecture will focus on the yachts, clubs and prominent families that sailed Long Island Sound at the turn of the 20th century. 

Dr. MacKay will share how the Morgan’s, Whitney’s, Roosevelt’s and Vanderbilt’s used their yachts for racing, cruising, commuting and epic voyages. 

MacKay will also discuss how the New York Yacht Club and Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club established outposts in Glen Cove and Centre Island, respectively.

An avid sailor, noted author and preservationist, Dr. MacKay is the esteemed former director of the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities. 

Books can be purchased and signed by Dr. MacKay following the lecture.
