he Manhasset-Lakeville Fire District responded to house fire in Great Neck on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 1 p.m.
Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Companies 3, 4, 5 and the Ambulance Unit were dispatched to 78 Tobin Ave. in Great Neck for a reported structure fire.
Deputy chiefs Kiess and Farrone led the first units to respond and were advised that one call through FireCom had been received with the caller stating that their house was on fire.
A minute later, the dispatcher informed both responding chiefs that N.C.P.D. units were on scene confirming a working house fire.
With this new information, Deputy Chief Farrone requested that a working fire be transmitted.
Engine 8740 from Company 4 was the first piece of apparatus to arrive on the scene and located the fire in the basement of the two-story home.
The crew quickly stretched a hose line down in to the basement and knocked down the fire.
The crew of Engine 8735 stretched a second precautionary hose line off of Engine 8740 and stood-fast. The crews of Ladder 8743 and Heavy Rescue 8730 searched the house for any occupants, which turned up none with the exception of two dogs that were removed from the house unharmed.
The Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company responded as the Firefighter Assistance and Search Time with Ladder 8312, in addition to Chief Jacobs and Assistant Chiefs Forst and Charry.
Other Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department units on the scene include Engine 8758, Ambulances 8768 and 8769, Chief of Department Pitzer and Deputy Chief Garrigan.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal was requested to the scene for an immediate investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
