Lyle Lovett to play Westbury Aug. 17

The Island Now

Lyle Lovett and His Large Band will be performing at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury on Sunday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m.

A singer, composer and actor, Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums.

Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers.  Lovett has appeared in 13 feature films, and on stage and television.  He was recently seen on television on the FX series, “The Bridge.”

Among his many accolades, besides the four Grammy Awards, he was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award, and in 2011 was named the Texas State Musician.

Lovett began as a songwriter, but then in 1986 was signed to MCA Records and released his self-titled debut album. Since then, he has released a total of 14 studio, live and compilation albums. His most recent album, “Release Me,” was released in February 2012. The album was #1 for several weeks on the Americana Charts.
