New York Institute of Technology
The following local students completed New York Institute of Technology’s rigorous Internship Certificate Program, earning valuable hands-on experience and developing skills in a wide range of work environments.
The Internship Certificate Program at NYIT includes assessment of targeted skills by an on-site supervisor. Most certificate holders are offered continuing employment at the organization where they completed their internship. This year, more than 200 NYIT students earned certificates by working as product assistants, physical therapy aides, architecture interns, and in many other jobs.
Andrew Pereira of Mineola, who worked as a physical therapy aide at Physical Solutions in Mineola; Taylor Ferreira of Great Neck, who worked at Professional Physical Therapy in Whitestone; Xinling Deng of Great Neck, who worked at Chase Tiles & Cabinets Inc. in Brooklyn; Jashanpreet Ratth of New Hyde Park, who worked at Bellrose Medical Care PC in Queens Village; and Sam Thomas of New Hyde Park, who worked at Parker Jewish Institute for Healthcare and Rehab in New Hyde Park.
Sobnom Mostari of New Hyde Park, a member of New York Institute of Technology’s Class of 2020, took part in NYIT’s 2018 Service Learning Conference. Service learning is an educational method that combines community service with classroom instruction and reflection to enrich learning and build strong community ties.
Tufts University
The university’s Class of 2022 includes: Sarah Gottesman, Andrew Alstodt and Alexander Zsikla of Port Washington; Meital Agagi, Craig Cagner and Angelina Ng of Great Neck; Ismenia Ginebra and Sonam Delhiwala of New Hyde Park; Alex Maleno, John Cyprus, Adam Pidedjian and Andrew Batteria of Manhasset.
Quinnipiac University
Marissa Motti of Manhasset was inducted into Quinnipiac University’s Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association’s official honor society.
To qualify for induction, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 and a grade point average of at least 3.25 in their communications classes.
Fairleigh Dickinson University
Danielle Fabian of Roslyn Heights graduated with a BA in Communication Studies.
SUNY New Paltz
Rogan De Lisio of New Hyde Park presented an original engineering design project at the fall 2018 Senior Design Review on Dec. 7.
The event is part of the senior design capstone experience for electrical, computer and mechanical engineering majors at New Paltz. Halfway through their design year, the student teams get feedback on their original projects from regional engineering professionals, faculty and peers.
SUNY Oneonta
Katherine Dorman of Albertson, Irene Isaac of New Hyde Park and Caitlyn Pereira of New Hyde Park were recognized for attaining leadership milestones through the college’s Leadership Education and Development program.
LEAD@Oneonta is a comprehensive leadership program based on current research and guidelines from the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education. All students can choose to participate in the LEAD program, which aims to better prepare them for life after college by providing a comprehensive picture of leadership and the skills needed to be a good leader.
SUNY Oswego
Laura J. Dumpson of Mineola took part in an internship in fall 2018 through SUNY Oswego’s Center for Experiential Learning. A senior majoring in psychology, Dumpson interned with Imagine Early Learning Center in Port Washington.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Ryan Kriftcher of Port Washington was named captain of RPI Men’s Basketball.
Kriftcher, a guard, saw action in eight games a season ago. He scored four points with nine rebounds and three assists. He also registered two steals and a blocked shot. As a sophomore, he scored seven points with a pair of rebounds, three steals and two assists in eight games. The civil engineering major did not play as a freshman due to injury.
University of Scranton
Felisha Fret of Great Neck began the doctor of business administration this fall semester.
The University’s DBA program, with a concentration in accounting, was developed to provide experienced practitioners with a practical pathway to an academic career.
Belmont University
Michael Ottavio, of Manhasset and Sydney Behar of Mineola qualified for the fall 2018 Dean’s List. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.
Coastal Carolina University
Angelica Pizza, a communications major from Albertson, earned a perfect 4.0 during the fall 2018 semester.
Taylor Giallanza, a communications major from New Hyde Park made it onto Dean’s List.
University of the Sciences
Marilyn Abraham and Riya Varma of New Hyde Park were named to the summer 2018 Dean’s List.
