Mineola restaurant Mama Soup is providing relief for workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, the restaurant donated 500 meals to NYU Winthrop Hospital and 100 meals to North Shore University Hospital. The restaurant raised the funds for the meal donations through its “SOUPER Relief Team” efforts, including a GoFundMe page.

Mama Soup owner Megan Kleven has spearheaded the effort to support front-line workers.

Mama Soup hosted a drive-thru music and light show event in Franklin Square on May 2. While the event was free, attendees were encouraged to make donations, all of which went toward providing meals to front-line workers.

“The level of support shown by the entire community was heartfelt, as we honored the Frontline HEROES,” Mama Soup said of the event via Facebook on May 3. “This was a momentous tribute to show our great appreciation to those who are risking everything … The sense of togetherness that this event brought our neighbors during a time when we are all feeling the hurt of being apart from our family & friends was outstanding & uplifting.”

The SOUPER Relief Team has fed over 1,000 additional front-line workers over the past few weeks.

“We are forever grateful for these Heroes & all of the sacrifice & risk they are taking to SAVE the lives of our family & friends!” reads a post on the Mama Soup Facebook page, accompanied by photos of the SOUPER Relief Team delivering meals to Long Island Jewish Hospital and Cohen Children’s Medical Center on April 27.

As of Tuesday, Mama Soup has raised $4,213 through the restaurant’s GoFundMe page. Anyone who would like to donate to Mama Soup’s SOUPER Relief Team is encouraged to visit www.gofundme.com/souperreliefteam.

Mama Soup is open for curbside pickup, and delivers to Mineola, Garden City and surrounding neighborhoods.
