Library plan vital to Great Neck

The Island Now

I urge you to vote yes on Oct. 25 for the library renovation.

You ask, why should I support what amounts to tax increase, simply because it is vital to the educational fiber of Great Neck.

People come to Great Neck from around the world so that their children can be a part of the free exceptional educational system that Great Neck provides. A vital part of this system is the free library.

Yet, perhaps, some in our community sometimes come to expect excellence in education without consideration of the related costs..

It is estimated that the difference in the tax-deductable real estate tax costs between necessary repairs and renovation is approximately $30 more per year to each homeowner based on an assessed value of $1 million.

Can you imagine what negative impact a no vote would have both on the values of our homes and on our educational system, should a major support like our free library face defeat.

Some of those that call themselves ³watchdogs² failed in the past when they served on the library board and now choose to throw stones at the very fiber of the free educational support and foundation provided by the public library

Making false claims simply to distort the true needs to renovate our main library for the 21 Century is a trait of this self appointed watchdog group.

For our children and grandchildren as well as future generations and for the community values we all hold sacred, please Vote yes on Oct. 25.
