LI Junior League visits St. Mary’s

The Island Now

The Junior League of Long Island recently visited St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside to enjoy Mother’s Day weekend with St. Mary’s Kids. The visitors came to St. Mary’s with potted plants and arts-and-crafts for the kids to enjoy and give to their parents over the weekend.

“Events like this allow us to celebrate each of the many special children here at St. Mary’s,” said Jeffrey Frerichs, president and chief executive officer of St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children. “We can’t thank the Junior League of Long Island enough for sharing such a special day with St. Mary’s kids and spending their Mother’s Day weekend here with us.”

The group of about 15 volunteers came and participated in several Mother’s Day arts-and-craft activities and brought in plants for each child in the Saturday Pediatric Day Healthcare Program to give to their mothers on Mother’s Day.

The Junior League of Long Island is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

The volunteers felt that St. Mary’s would be a great opportunity to share quality time with children and enjoy their weekend.
