Letter-writer plays the race card

The Island Now

In Mr. Charles Samek’s Sept. 6 letter to the editor demonizing the Republican National Convention, he describes our country, writing”….there are other areas that are virtually segregated and white. They are primarily Protestant and other peoples are truly not welcome there.”

While some areas of our country may not be as diverse as others, one cannot assume that diversity is not welcome in these neighborhoods. Perhaps people of diverse backgrounds, themselves, choose not to move to certain neighborhoods. Go to any college campus and you will see that people self segregate.

Mr. Samek continues, “Every time the camera focused on parts of the audience I could see that minorities were very few and far between.” I saw a diverse population both on the GOP Convention floor and on the stage. Granted, on stage, the GOP did not have the self proclaimed Native American Elizabeth Warren.

Mr. Samek also writes, “The comments like ‘one term president’ that we have been hearing are like schoolyard jeering which today is called bullying and especially bad when it is within the chambers of government.

It is disrespectful and shows that the speaker does not respect their self.”

n February of 2009,  Obama himself stated that his presidency would be a “one-term proposition” if the economy did not turn around on his watch in “three years.”

Mr. Samek concludes by saying, “I am sure that many are sensitive to undertones and it hits me like plain old racism.”

When all else fails, play the race card. The Democrats, with their class warfare, tell people that the system is rigged against them. Identity politics are not constructive to our country. Hopefully, someday minorities will wake up and realize that the democrats are taking them for granted.
