League of Women Voters promote civil discourse with training workshop

The Island Now

The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in government, will be hosting its first in-house training workshop on Wednesday, March 11 at the Community Chest of Port Washington, 382 Main St. in Port Washington, from 7 – 10 p.m.

The workshop will be coordinated by the group, Better Angels – a citizens’ movement that brings together liberals and conservatives at a grassroots level – which has arranged to send two moderators to run a “Depolarizing From Within” workshop next month.

The strategic goal for the League, this year, is “Promoting Civil Discourse.” In the works are talking circles, skills building and a large event in the Spring. This is possible thanks to the League’s active and diverse steering committee, whose efforts have been driving the process.
