The John Lewis Childs School community came together on Oct. 24 to unveil a new outdoor school sign located on the corner of Tyson Avenue and Elizabeth Street.

Donated by the John Lewis Childs School PTA, the new sign features the school name and a flower and will soon be the home of the school’s kindness garden. Last year, teacher and PTA member Marisa Kowalski and students spray-painted rocks that included messages of kindness. Those rocks will eventually be placed in a flower-shaped bed in front of the sign.

Students at the sign celebration dressed in their Unity Day tied-dyed T-shirts that read “Be Kind.” Also in attendance were Principal Susan Fazio, Assistant Principal Kristina Lunch, Floral Park-Bellerose School District Superintendent of Schools Michael Dantona, district administrators, Board of Education trustees, Village of Floral Park board members and PTA members.

“I always wanted a sign similar to this for this building,” Mrs. Fazio said. “We have one, but it’s sort of hidden and I felt like the school needed something to make it look beautiful, because we’re not only beautiful on the outside, were beautiful on the inside.”

Mrs. Fazio thanked all those who made the purchase, design and installation of the sign possible.
