Sid Jacobson JCC confirmed in an email to its members last week that a senior member and a staff member have tested positive for the coronavirus.
The East Hills facility said that the member had visited the 300 Forest Drive location on March 10 and the staffer had visited both 300 Forest Drive and its annex on March 11, before the center closed. Following their diagnoses, the individuals reported their cases to the JCC.
“While we have not been notified by any official agency, we are sharing this information as a precautionary measure,” the center’s email read “Since both tested positive 10 days after our closing, exposure and risk to our staff and members are uncertain.”
The center has closed all of its buildings, an update email read on Wednesday, and has a goal of reopening on April 20. For the time being, fitness classes are being hosted through videos and programs online. A virtual Shabbat was even organized on Friday, the email said.
The center also says that despite the buildings being closed, it has contacted over 1,500 senior members to provide comfort and assess needs; donated over 1,000 pounds of food and baby formula to the food insecure; hosted weekly support groups, programs, and virtual exercise groups for participants in its Nancy Marx Cancer Wellness Center; and provided virtual activities for its Adult Day Program families.
