The Island Today: Broadway hits come to Main Street

Alice Ripley, Best Actress Tony Award-winner for “Next to Normal,” is joining the cast of Broadway on Main Street, which will take place on Friday, March 10 at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater at Landmark on Main Street.

Also a Tony and Drama Desk nominee for “Side Show,” Ripley created original Broadway roles in “The Rocky Horror Show,” James Joyce’s “The Dead,” “Sunset Boulevard,” “The Who’s Tommy,” and “American Psycho.”

Broadway on Main Street is an all-new event created exclusively for Landmark.

Producer Stephen DeAngelis brings five of Broadway’s finest vocalists to recreate their signature musical moments from their long-running roles in the Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals you know and love.

Taking advantage of the intimate setting of the 425-seat theater, the stars will also share backstage stories and take questions from the audience.

Where else can you find a cast with a veritable encyclopedia of credits that include Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional and London productions, including:

* Jeanna De Waal: “Kinky Boots,” “American Idiot,” “Finding Neverland,” “Waitress,” “Wicked,” “Carrie,” and “Orwell In America”

* Gavin Lee: “Les Miserables,” “Holiday Inn,” “Top Hat,” “Mary Poppins” (Olivier and Tony Award nominations; Drama Desk and Theatre World award wins), “Showboat,” “Crazy For You,” “Peggy Sue Got Married,” “Me and My Girl,” “Oklahoma!,” “Contact,” and “The SpongeBob Musical”

* Alysha Umphress: “On the Town,” “Broadway: American Idiot” (OBC), “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever,” “Priscilla Queen of the Desert,” and “Bring It On”
