Recently the Indian Community of Manhasset (ICM) hosted their 5th Annual Diwali event at the Metropolitan in Glen Cove. As always it was a fun filled event with over hundred in attendance. The evening commenced with diya lighting followed by several performances by children. Performances consisted of dances on some very popular Bollywood songs, violin performance, shloka/pooja recital, bharat natyam dance and singing. All kids did a fantastic job. Their weeks of practice was very evident in flawless execution.

Sandeep Gupta, one of the main organizers of the event, commented, “It’s exciting to see how this community comes together year after year and actively participates to make the Diwali event memorable. I am also impressed with how all continue to celebrate our heritage and culture. It’s clear, we need to have more of such celebratory events to cater to the needs our community.”

Vick Wadhwa, who also leads many aspects of ICM, said, “This year was especially special as we had Judi Bosworth, Supervisor of the Town North Hempstead, join in the celebrations. Judi took the time to meet all present and really seemed to enjoy her time with us. She has promised to come back next year!”

Judi was able to witness some of the performances by the children. In her remarks, she discussed some of the key initiatives that she has spearheaded to make North Hempstead a better place for all residents. She discussed her support for the ‘Not in Our Town” movement and how it is essential for all to get it right.

The event was also supported by Heidi Karagianis, Realtor at Daniel Gale. Heidi shared how she and her firm are focused on helping families settle well, not only in Manhasset but across all of Long Island.

In addition to Sandeep Gupta and Vick Wadhwa, all those who played a lead role in hosting this terrific event include Sujata Gupta, Deepa Wadhwa, Sonali Narain, Nilanjana Misra, Veera Purani, Chet Purani, Ashish Midha, and Satyanarayan Chandrashekhar.
