Reader’s Write: Human warmth eases challenges of cold winter

The Island Now

This is certainly the worst winter that I can recall.  My endodontist disagrees and recalls worst winters just before he announces that he moved to Long Island from upstate New York, near Buffalo.

But, despite the snow and ice this year, this has also been a winter of human warmth for this disabled old man.

While I miss years past when volunteers were available for snow shoveling at reasonable rates, I am grateful for the help provided by good neighbors in the way of food, shoveling and solicitous phone calls!

We Christians sometimes think we have the market on good deeds but my good neighbors are from many faiths and national origins.

I am happy to be a resident of Broadway in New Hyde Park amid so many good neighbors.
