The Island Now

The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County’ presents “Mengele: Unmasking the ‘Angel of Death’,” a discussion and book signing by Dr. David Marwell of his new book, on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. at HMTC, Welwyn Preserve, 100 Crescent Beach Road, Glen Cove.

In his new book Mengele: Unmasking the “Angel of Death,” Marwell traces the international search for Mengele in 1985, which ended in a cemetery in Brazil, and the dogged forensic investigation, including the work of Nassau County’s chief medical examiner, which finally confirmed Mengele’s death in 1992.

Marwell will speak at HMTC about this riveting story of science without limits, escape without freedom, and resolution without justice.

Dr. David G. Marwell, former director of the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City, worked on the Mengele case at the Justice Department’s Office of Special Investigations in the 1980s.  A historian who has served and led a number of government and nonprofit institutions, he lives in University Park, Maryland, with his wife. Dr. Marwell will present a talk based on his new book. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase.

$10 suggested donation to attend.  Light refreshments will be served.  RSVP to (516) 571-8040 or programs@hmtcli.org.
