Holocaust center to screen “The Visitor”

The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County’s David Taub Reel Upstanders Film Series will present a film screening of “The Visitor” on Sunday, May 6 at 12:30 p.m.

The screening will take place at HMTC, Welwyn Preserve, 100 Crescent Beach Road in Glen Cove. The facilitator for the screening will be Professor Emily Torstveit Ngara, attorney-in-charge of the Deportation Defense Clinic at Hofstra University.

“The Visitor” focuses on a lonely man whose life changes when he is forced to face issues relating to identity, immigration and cross-cultural communication in post-9/11 New York City.

Director Tom McCarthy won a 2008 Independent Spirit Award for Best Director for his work on the film. Richard Jenkins was nominated for a 2009 Academy Award for best actor for his role in the film.

The David Taub Reel Upstanders Film Series was established in honor of David Taub (1932-2010), a Holocaust Survivor and respected friend of the center.
